Diana and Juan have started a very exciting collaboration. Their common Spanish background brought to the table a stream of songs with which both were familiar. The extraordinary voice of Diana combined with Juan's sensibility with the Diana & Juanguitar give audiences a truly fresh alternative: the inviting and intimate six strings of the guitar, blended perfectly underneath the warmth and sensuality of Diana's pure and captivating voice.
Their repertoire is a blend of classical, hispano-american folk and flamenco.

Diana's Biography
Diana has enjoyed singing since early age for family and friends. Later, Diana attended the School of Music at the University of Guadalajara from 1998 to 2002 obtaining an Associate Degree on Music Teaching majoring on Singing.  From 2003 to 2004, she spent time in Toronto taking private lessons with Jean McPheal. 
Later in 2004, she continued with her Bachelor’s degree in Voice at the University of Guadalajara, which she finished on 2008.
She has sung a variety of genres ranging from Medieval to Latin American Folkloric Music.  From 2001, she has been part of the Guadalajara’s City Hall Choir with an extensive  choral repertoire.
She has been a soloist and has participated in recitals performing Opera Arias of Puccini, Verdi, and Mozart, among others.  This year she was invited to perform the mother’s role in the Gian Carlo Menotti’s opera “Amahl and the Night Visitors” in a three-week tour by several Mexican states.
She has recently moved to North Vancouver.

Ivan & Juan met at one of Ivan's a performances in Vancouver.  They began to jam and 'undust' old melodies and joining forces by combining Ivan's extensive classical repertoire and Juan's flamenco guitar experience.  The result is The Singing Guitars Duo with a very Ivan Dimitrov
& Juandistinct sound, always different due to the large component of improvisation.
Their repertoire includes flamenco, classical, jazz and hispano-american themes. They perform mostly at private events and festivals.

Ivan's Biography
Ivan is a professional guitarist. He graduated from the Academy of Musical and Dance Arts in Bulgaria and has been performing ever since. Ivan is especially interested in Latin American and Spanish music, Flamenco in particular. This passion for Spanish music led to his collaboration with different flamenco dancers, and he often played for the flamenco dance group of Jose Montoya.
As a versatile performer who plays not only Flamenco, but also light classical and jazz music, Ivan collaborated with numerous leading musicians playing different styles of music ranging from Baroque to modern jazz.
Ivan has performed in major resorts in Bulgaria, and while residing in South Africa, he played at Montecasino and at the Hilton Hotel in Johannesburg, the Manhattan Hotel and Lucid Candle Garden in Pretoria, and at many other venues and events, bringing the magic of the guitar to appreciative audiences.  He currently teaches classical guitar at the Steveston Academy of Music in Richmond BC.

Roxana Avalos-Calderón, violin


Roxana - JuanRoxana and Juan are continuously expanding their repertoire that includes south american folklore, tango, light jazz, flamenco and classical works.
Roxana, a long time performer and teacher brings her invaluable experience to this unique duet. Roxana and Juan are available for private events, weddings, etc.

Roxana's Biography
Roxana Whetham, was born in Lima, Peru, and has been playing violin since four years of age. She has studied in Peru, Italy, and the United States, with a Batchelor & Masters degree in Music and Performance from N.Y. State University. Roxana has been performing and teaching for more than 30 years, in Peru, the U.S., and Canada. She has been a member of various Symphony Orchestras from Peru, CBC Vancouver, and Edmonton, as well as numerous Chamber Music Ensembles. Roxana is a very versatile artist, and she embraces many forms of music including latin, jazz, and South American folklore.

Anupam Shobhakar, Sarod


Anupam Shobhakar, sarod virtuoso born in India whom has recently moved to Vancouver, is currently working with Juan developing an new repertoire blending traditional Anupam and Juanindian and flamenco music.  Having both flamenco and indian music common roots and remote origins, the results of such collaboration are extremely interesting and beautiful.

Juan and Anupam are currently working in preparation for the upcoming Jazz and Folk festivals as well as a new CD.

Anupam's Biography
Having started at a tender age of 8, Anupam is one of the most sought after musicians in the industry. He has received 'taalim' in the 'guru-shishya parampara' from Sarod Maestro Ustaad Ashish Khan, Shri Suresh Vyaas of the Maihar Charana and Pt. Hari Prasad Chaurasiya, world renowned flautist.
Apart from teaching music and performing abroad as well as India, Anupam composes music for films as well. He has recently been awarded the Canadian film industry's Best Music Award.
